Media and Communications Department

Neemanei Tora VeAvoda is concerned to strengthen the voice of modern orthodoxy in today’s media. Although modern orthodox views are often expressed in academia, in cultural settings and in major periodicals, they are noticeably absent in the media. There are media clippings dealing with Jewish and religious issues but these tend to convey only Haredi (ultra – orthodox) views. This has had its effect on the way Judaism is perceived by the non-religious community.

Ne'emanai Torah vaAvodah is currently employing a spokesman whose job it is to ensure that every news article that is published relating to Jewish matters incorporates the views of the movement on the issue concerned. In addition, he is responsible for enhancing public relations and publicly advertising activities.

Since the department was established, numerous articles on religious services, women’s rights and Torah teachings have made it into the media. There is no doubt that this public exposure has strengthened the ability of Ne'emanei Torah vaAvoda to acquaint the public with views other than those of the ultra-orthodox community.

Today the spokesman is only a part-time employee but we hope to expand his services to a full- time position. The cost of this full-time position is $25,000 per annum. This sum includes additional expenses such as a cell phone and beeper.
